30.10. – 17:00 – 18:15 EET
Exploring new and old peripheries in Europe
We invite you for a discussion around co-edited open access book on Reconfiguring EU
Peripheries.
The volume explores the diverse nature of the European Union’s interactions with its
peripheries. Focusing on a period of rising regional tensions marked most recently by the
war in Ukraine, the volume casts new empirical and conceptual light on the diverse
motivations that underpin the political elites’ attitudes towards the EU in Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania, Türkiye and Ukraine.
The event’s two guest speakers explore and discuss the shifting nature of EU peripheries
and the impact of recent crises and conflicts that made some countries express the need
for ‘more EU’. At the same time, some nations highlight their doubts and
disappointments over the challenges they have faced over recent years due to the EU
integration process.
